Meet Hashan Chowdhury

Hashan Chowdhury is a proven community leader, public safety professional, Democratic organizer, and dedicated realtor running for the Democratic Central Committee in Maryland’s Legislative District 39. A proud resident of Germantown, Hashan is stepping forward to strengthen the Democratic Party, expand voter engagement, and deliver results for the diverse communities that define District 39

For over a decade, Hashan has served in the public safety field, working with Parole and Probation and the Montgomery County Department of Correction and Rehabilitation (DOCR). Since 2010, he has been on the front lines of the justice system, gaining firsthand experience with rehabilitation, reentry, and community safety. This work has shaped his balanced approach to public safety — one that emphasizes accountability, fairness, and second chances while keeping communities safe.

Beyond public safety, Hashan has built a career in real estate, helping families navigate one of the most important decisions of their lives — finding a place to call home. He has worked closely with first-time homebuyers, growing families, and seniors, ensuring they have access to safe, affordable, and suitable housing options. Hashan also served as a member of the Community Service Committee of Maryland Realtors, where he worked to strengthen communities beyond the transaction. He believes housing is about more than property — it is about stability, opportunity, and dignity.

Hashan brings this same commitment to public service. He is focused on expanding affordable housing opportunities for working families, helping first-time buyers understand and access available programs, supporting responsible development that strengthens neighborhoods, protecting tenants and homeowners from unfair practices, and connecting residents with resources for housing stability and financial growth. As someone deeply rooted in the community, Hashan understands the challenges people face — from rising housing costs to limited access to information.

In addition to his public service and real estate careers, Hashan has built a strong record of leadership across education, labor, and civic engagement. He currently serves as President of the Parkland Middle School PTSA, supporting one of Montgomery County’s leading aerospace technology programs and advocating for students and families. As a former Parent Representative on the Montgomery County Commission on Child Care, he worked to advance policies that support working parents and expand access to quality childcare.

Hashan also brings deep experience in labor and community advocacy. As President of the Alliance of South Asian American Labor (Maryland Chapter), he has championed worker rights, fair wages, and economic opportunity. As President of the Bangladeshi American Foundation, he has led efforts to increase civic participation and empower immigrant communities to engage in the democratic process.

His prior service as an elected committee member for the North Penn Democratic Committee (2010–2014) gave him valuable experience in grassroots organizing, voter outreach, and party-building — skills he is ready to put to work immediately for District 39.

Hashan lives in Germantown and is ready to lead, organize, and win for Democrats in District 39. Together, we can build stronger communities — starting with a place to call home.
